It was 2014, far before Manuka Mana was established, when we found our first lions mane mushroom in the wild. We were living in the San Francisco Bay Area working long days and absorbed in the busyness of life. One day we were sitting in our front lawn when we looked over the fence at our neighbors’ yard. In the center of the yard there was the stump from a tree that had been cut down a few months prior. And on the very middle of that stump was a large, white, fuzzy looking ball. After close inspection, we determined it was a lions mane mushroom. Score, we found one! That euphoric feeling inspired us to knock on our neighbor’s door and ask if we could have the mushroom growing on their dead tree stump. Confused and perplexed they agreed and we came home with our first “wild foraged” lions mane mushroom.
